Don’t think D&C doesn’t feel love for their southern neighbours! I had an amazing Canad’Eh, but I’m still getting jealous while talking to my American friends about their festivities (not to mention the weather!) My dear friend is visiting her boyfriend in Chicago and I am so jealous. Not only will she get to soak up the sun, but she has planned a super fun (yet practical) day to enjoy the fireworks at Navy Pier.
She has been tinkering for weeks and let me in on the plans when she was packing. I was returning her favourite clutch to her as she had asked us to convert it to a cross-body bag. She explained that she could wear her purse all day and not worry about misplacing it in the dark post-fireworks. (Smart, huh?)
She was planning on walking around all day, so she wanted to stay light. Collapsible water bottles are a great refillable option since they fold flat and weigh next to nothing when empty. Sunscreen on a carabiner easily straps onto the chain and works as a reminder to constantly reapply.  Also, she had found a pattern for a foldable picnic blanket that she could easily throw over her shoulder and jam in her suitcase.
She was going to go full out and enjoy Chicago for the pizza and hotdogs while she was there, but she still wanted to share something under the glow of the fireworks. At first she really wanted to make her favourite apple pie, but realized it wouldn’t survive the trek. Instead she settled on individual blueberry cobblers which are still just as festive but actually portable! The lack of lattice means they’ll survive the tumble of airport check in.
What can I say? My girl is both practical and super organized! I can’t wait to catch up with her!

Adorable Amanda from Chasing Twins in Louboutins toted our All About A Bow Clutch in Navy out on a summer date night with her hubby. Love to see our clutches dressed up AND down!

I know this is long overdue but it’s been a bit of a whirlwind lately with events, bridal season business and all of the excitement of the Stanley Cup Playoffs! (We’re Vancouverites, so pretty much every second day since the playoffs began has been considered a write off.)

The Bridal Party

This bridal show has to have been one of our favourite bridal shows to date! The smaller show and intimate atmosphere meant that we could spend a lot of one-on-one time with the brides-to-be. Typically, in larger shows, you’re just struggling to keep up and greet each attendee but this show allowed us to answer all of the brides’ questions and even create small take-home packages with swatches in their colour palettes. Can’t wait for next year’s party!

Since we’re typically all things bridal, doing an eco show was definitely something refreshing and out of the ordinary. It was great to be able to share the booth our studio mate, SWFDS, as well as a few other resident designers to the studio. Running with the green theme, we brought our up-cycled clutches, which use fabric remnants that we’ve gathered from other projects and designers. When we weren’t talking to attendees and answering questions we helped out with the some of the sewing workshops going on with SWFDS and even walked away with a few rosette hairpins of our own. The event attracted hundreds over the three days, so it’s safe to say that we nothing less than exhausted by the end of it!

Thank you everyone for the amazing entries! There can only be three official winners but with 20% off your next clutch just for entering, I think everyone can feel a little victorious.

Thanks to jessamae22 our Golden Peacock Clutch made it to the Etsy frontpage this past Saturday. I’m loving the black, gold and yellow colour scheme!

And as part of our Etsy Frontpage Giveaway, Jessica got her pick of any clutch in our shop and chose this one-of-a-kind bow clutch in a buttery olive leather. Congrats!

As you probably already know from my “Introducing….FUMI” post, she is a typical Aries and in typical Fumi-fashion, I just received the following email:

“Just started a spring cleaning sale. I know, out of nowhere … (sorry for no heads up, it was kind of an impulse move!)  Really in the cleaning mood these days!! It is supposed to start tomorrow for a week, but the listings are already up.”

It’s pretty much our version of Crazy Al’s Door-Crasher Sale, except Crazy Al is Impulsive Fumi. So hurry and check out the Spring Cleaning Sale section of our Etsy shop – it’s only on until April 14th!

Nothing like a good sale to keep you on your toes!

With the 2011 wedding season almost underway (fittings, bridal bootcamps, seating plans and all of those “last minute” finishing touches), we love to look to our past Davie & Chiyo brides and bridesmaids for inspiration. Romantic moments, pre-wedding day hilarity, beaming brides… we want to see it all!

So to make this an annual event, we’re asking for photos for our second annual Calling All Davie & Chiyo Brides photo contest. It’s as easy as pie to enter (or maybe even easier – whoever came up with that saying probably meant eating the pie, not baking it). Just send us a wedding day photo of you with your Davie & Chiyo clutch by Sunday, April 10th, 11:59pm PST. We’ll pick our three favourites, which will be handsomely rewarded with a $50 Davie & Chiyo gift certificate to be used on our website or Etsy shop.

Please email your entries to with the subject line, Davie & Chiyo Photo Contest.

So get cracking on those wedding albums and good luck!

PS. If you entered our contest last year, only new photos (ones that were not previously entered into the contest) will be considered.

Spotted: Girl about town with Davie & Chiyo clutch in hand.

Yours truly made it to the virtual pages of Vancouver’s own fashion and shopping blog, The Style Spy, toting none other than my very own Shabby Chic Leather Clutch. The interview covers pretty much the A-to-Z on my personal style – what’s in my purse, my weekend wardrobe, beauty must-haves and even my guiltiest pleasures… (Don’t make fun!)

The Vancouver-based blog, which has recently expanded into Toronto, features local contributors with news on the latest and greatest when it comes to shopping in Canada. As much as I love to read European and American fashion blogs, it’s always a little disheartening to find out that that perfect piece just isn’t available in Canada. As a regular reader of The Style Spy I can browse without a looming sense of disappointment, knowing that every covetable piece or up-and-coming boutique is just on my doorstep.

Click here to read the full interview while I enjoy being the girl of the week for just a little longer…
