Calling all Vancouver brides-to-be and their entourages!

Davie & Chiyo will be at the first annual Bridal Party with clutches to see, touch and fawn over in-person. Forget the hustle and bustle of over-crowded and cookie-cutter bridal shows, this exclusive and intimate event will be held at none other than Vancouver’s own Hollyburn Country Club in the heart of the British Properties. There will be cocktails and appies, and we’ll have clutches for sale and samples for ideas so you can place your own custom order right there at our booth. Best part is that if you RSVP, you’ll gift a gift bag with tons of goodies from our fellow vendors and you’ll walk right in with your entourage for free!

Date:  Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Time: 7-9pm
Location: Hollyburn Country Club
Address: 950 Crosscreek Road, West Vancouver

Click here to RSVP to the Bridal Party Facebook page and see you at the party!

With the 2011 wedding season almost underway (fittings, bridal bootcamps, seating plans and all of those “last minute” finishing touches), we love to look to our past Davie & Chiyo brides and bridesmaids for inspiration. Romantic moments, pre-wedding day hilarity, beaming brides… we want to see it all!

So to make this an annual event, we’re asking for photos for our second annual Calling All Davie & Chiyo Brides photo contest. It’s as easy as pie to enter (or maybe even easier – whoever came up with that saying probably meant eating the pie, not baking it). Just send us a wedding day photo of you with your Davie & Chiyo clutch by Sunday, April 10th, 11:59pm PST. We’ll pick our three favourites, which will be handsomely rewarded with a $50 Davie & Chiyo gift certificate to be used on our website or Etsy shop.

Please email your entries to with the subject line, Davie & Chiyo Photo Contest.

So get cracking on those wedding albums and good luck!

PS. If you entered our contest last year, only new photos (ones that were not previously entered into the contest) will be considered.

Watch out bridal bigwigs, Anthropologie has now added bridal into the mix! The retailer of all things whimsical and sweet in fashion and decor has opened the virtual doors of BHLDN.

“Inspired by the Dutch word for “to keep,” as well as countless tales from family and friends of the extraordinary weddings they’d been part of, we began dreaming up something new.

Be you. Be loved. BHLDN”

This bridal boutique is anything but cookie cutter. Dreamy shifts,  charming frocks and out-of-the-ordinary gowns grace its virtual pages. And even if you’re not on the market for THE dress, their selection of inspired cocktail dresses is perfect for an evening out with your (perfect) prince charming.

I couldn’t help but style some of my favourites with a few Davie & Chiyo clutches…

As a wedding photographer, it’s only natural that Laura lives, breathes and dreams weddings.  When she’s not photographing someone’s special day, she’s definitely thinking about it. New palettes, fresh decor, dreamy frocks… But fret not, her inspirations aren’t lost! Rather they’ve been carefully collected and lovingly organized into The Artful Bride.

One of our customizable bridesmaids sets made her idea list, describing our clutches as being the perfect combination of gift and accessory, especially for brides on a budget. And who says that everything bridesmaid needs to match? Gone are the days of clone bridesmaids in carbon copy dresses and accessories! Today’s brides are adding a little personality to each lady in the bridal party with unique dresses and accessories brought together by a common colour palette. Just brilliant.

Shopaholics Unite – definitely a cause I can support!

Launched earlier this year, Shopaholics Unite, seeks to do just that – unite shopaholics over the latest trends, sales and closet treasures.  The shopping blog began as a means of recycling founder, Alisa’s, vast personal inventory of clothing, shoes and accessories, so that they could be re-worked and re-vamped into another well-deserving wardrobe. Since then the blog has expanded to sell a plethora of new and “slightly loved” pieces.

We were lucky enough to be featured as the blog’s first up-and-coming label to watch. Alisa sat down with Fumi, talking about everything from how it began to advice for new entrepreneurs.

Calling all Vancouverites!

Davie & Chiyo has officially found a new home at Fine Finds in Yaletown, Vancouver’s lavish boutique and eatery district. Fine Finds has always been a must-see (and must-have) when I’m shopping for a new season or just on the hunt for a new accessory. The exposed-brick boutique features local designers, cute trinkets and an endless array of covetable pieces, and is a definitely a staple for the style savvy and fashion driven.

We’re part of the boutique’s new “Weddings and Milestones” department, which they just debuted this past January. You’ll be able to find all of those finishing touches for the wedding of your dreams and daydreams – delicate veils, memorable wedding gifts and favors, and above all, the  perfect accessories.

So if browsing our virtual shop isn’t enough for you, be sure to pop into Fine Finds to see, touch (and smell?) a D&C clutch of your very own.

After weeks of gloom and grey, Spring is in the air! Okay, so we’re not quite out of the dark yet but a week of glorious Vancouver sun has wiped any memory of our rainy winter. (A beautiful Vancouver day can do that to you. Why do you think Vancouverites continue to live here through the rain and exorbitantly high cost of living? We’re not stupid, just forgiving…)

So what if it’s still below 5 degrees, I’m wearing a winter wool coat and can sometimes see my breath on my post-workday walk home…? The sun and Robson street store displays are telling me otherwise. I’m heading into spring and I’m not looking back!

And all of us on team D&C can say the same. Thoughts of summer blooms, garden parties and beach-side picnics have got our creative juices flowing…

Introducing the NEW Summer Garden Clutch!

The fresh new design features beautiful pleats that converge at the kiss-lock closure in a petal-inspired pattern. Vibrant prints bring this little clutch to life in colours like bright fuchsia, black and white. The smaller, circular shape makes for a more compact clutch that is perfect for a lipstick, compact and all the essentials, and to make this clutch even better is the adjustable chain that takes you from wristlet to over-the-shoulder.

Happy (garden) partying!

Since becoming the resident blogger for an Etsy-er, I have become Etsy obsessed! I love all things Etsy and before I head out to buy a new piece for my wardrobe or apartment, I’m always sure to consult Etsy first. You can get amazingly unique pieces that you can almost be certain won’t be worn by someone else at the party.

The same goes for bridal. You can get beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces that are lovingly handcrafted, and since they aren’t carried at every bridal boutique in town, they’re sure to be showstoppers.

Wedding Style Magazine seems to be on the same page (no pun intended) with their “For the Love of Etsy” spread, which features our Ivory Rosa Iceberg Clutch. If you’re loving this clutch, stop by the Wedding Style Bridal Show being held at the Visalia Convention Center in Visalia, CA on March 20, 2011. You can enter for a chance to win this clutch as well as all of the other Etsy items in the spread.

Thanks to 4leafclover we have our first Etsy frontpage of 2011!

And as promised, we’re giving away a clutch to celebrate. 4leafclover chose the oh so luxurious Tiered Rose Clutch in Creme Brulee:

A free clutch!?!?

Yes! For every treasury with a Davie & Chiyo clutch that makes it to the Etsy frontpage, we’ll reward that Etsy-er with a Davie & Chiyo clutch of their choice. It really doesn’t get any sweeter than that! So include us in as many treasuries as frequently as you’d like.

We also have a few tips to get you to that frontpage a little faster:

  • Good photography is essential. Clear, well-lit and color-balanced photos with compelling compositions are more apt to garner clicks from shoppers.
  • A consistent color palette can serve to tie the pieces together.
  • Provide a range of price points
  • Use alternates! When a Treasury List is promoted to the homepage, it includes the four hidden alternate items. On the homepage, items are removed when they sell and the alternate are moved up into view.
  • Provide a varied collection of items. We rarely promote all-one-type-of-product Treasury Lists to the frontpage.  That said, if you’re using the Treasury Lists to promote your Team’s art form, or you’re just plain interested in only earrings, go for it! Not all Treasury Lists are made with the homepage in mind, and this is a good thing.
  • Double check that everything is handmade or properly categorized as vintage or supplies.
  • Double check that sellers you’re featuring have good feedback.
  • Themes and puns are a fun and creative way to organize a list.
  • Give a boost to interesting items from new sellers or items with low views from the back pages of the categories.
  • Make sure no artist is represented more then once on a given Treasury List. (We avoid featuring the same seller twice on a single homepage.)
